Problem with Disasterzone_r2

Post by Kurgan on Thu Sep 26, 2013 6:14 pm

Looks like it almost finishes downloading, and then hangs. I've downloaded the map from a map server, and then get a fatal error each time I run it. From amount of people on server looks like I'm not the only one having issues with this particular map. Sad

I kind of figured that b/c I can't get into security_r it kicks me every time. I use to be able to get on that map but since the update I can't anymore. I was asking Easykill about it and he's trying to figure it out for me. Then I was wondering why I couldn't get in tiger. The map is not in my =BB= file at all. Is there anyway I can download that?

Yeah, look in the map request topic, lots of places to download maps there. It should work if you manually download the maps and make sure everything is in the right new place.

If the problem could be figured out I'm sure it would be resolved. I know omni has spent time trying to figure it out. The problem isn't with the maps themselves but with any maps that need wad files downloaded.

You can get the map from download mirrors at this link:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The wad files need to go in the common/Half-Life/tfc    directory

The bsp file and txt file need to go in the common/Half-Life/tfc/maps

the jpg files and the dva logo ... wad file are probably unnecessary.  Mine works fine without those.

What is involved in updating the map packs? Perhaps it is time to do so. Then we'd also have easy access to maps that are harder to find copies of any more. I'd be willing to help where I can.

Well I resgen'ed it. This is what output I got:

// disasterzone_r2.res - created with RESGen v2.0.2.
// RESGen is made by Jeroen "ShadowLord" Bogers,
// with serveral improvements and additions by Zero3Cool.
// For more info go to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

// .res entries (14):
decals.wad
disastermaps.wad
gfx/env/2desertbk.tga
gfx/env/2desertdn.tga
gfx/env/2desertft.tga
gfx/env/2desertlf.tga
gfx/env/2desertrt.tga
gfx/env/2desertup.tga
halflife.wad
models/backpack.mdl
models/flag.mdl
sound/weapons/scock1.wav
tfc.wad
tfc2.wad

So it's pointing to all the necessary files, but I'm 99% Sure it's based off of the old steam architecture. I'll upload the new .res and make sure all the files are in place (again). If it doesn't work this time, I'm not sure what were going to do... I guess upgrading the mappack and putting all the necessary .res files in there is an option, but even if we put instructions on how to setup each file.. there's still a chance there going to place them in the wrong place...

There is also a disasterzone.wad included with the map. Its around 733 kB in size.

Good call. I manually added that in there. Not sure if it'll work, but it's worth a shot! Thanks!

It isn't working.

I deleted the files and tried connecting under both linux client and the windows client under wine.

There are wad DIRECTORIES created under tfc_downloads for both the files but the downloads puke and the clients crash and neither of the directories has anything in it so the downloads seem to be failing. It isn't just that they aren't in the right location but they don't seem to complete properly.

I guess the map should be pulled from the rotation.

Yeah, I'm just at a total loss right now... Sounds to me like that's a good idea. It's sad though, I really liked that map.. It just eerks me that they had to convert tfc over to steam pipe, and for what reason? It wasn't like it had issues starting up and preforming like tf2... I don't get it at all, also it killed a lot of the third party mods that are no longer supported. It's like they're trying to drive knife deeper into the game so more people will move on... They offer hardly any support on the steam forums. :/

This is a link for a client side fix. It might help. .asi file goes in your Half-Life directory
